on discovering my personal mission, question 8

Life on Purpose: 15 Questions to Discover Your Personal Mission

Question 8: If you had to teach something, what would you teach?

An interesting question because I am something of a teacher at heart, and I enjoy teaching. I don’t think of it so much as imparting knowledge, but inspiring others on their own learning (or healing) journeys. One thing I’ve learned over two years of homeschooling is that there are necessary conditions for learning and one is openness. If the openness isn’t there, I might as well be talking to a wall.

One of the things I like to do as a teacher is to simply cultivate openness, work with (and through) the fears that keep us closed, shutdown.

I *teach* by sharing my own experience, insights, etc., my own path, my own struggles. I’m not worried about others getting it, the readiness piece is out of my control.

I don’t think of myself as a teacher in the traditional sense, I am not comfortable with *authority* or *power.* I could never teach elementary, or high school. I am not comfortable in front of a room, but I’m very comfortable sharing thoughts, ideas, etc. from the floor, so to speak.

I’m more comfortable guiding processes than with teaching content, information, stuff in books.

If I had to go to work as a teacher (or guide) tomorrow, I’d teach how to live in the flow, how to stay present, how to be happy. These are things I’ve mastered. I wouldn’t teach religion or business or any of the subjects I’m qualified on paper to teach. How funny that teaching what I know makes me nervous, while teaching what I’m learning excites me so much. Maybe because it’s what matters.
